History of Mizpah Methodist Society, Nii Boi Town, Accra Historical Background The Mizpah Society of the Methodist Church Ghana was founded on the 14th of April, 2002. It all started when the Auxiliary Minister in charge, Very Rev. Grace Fakah presided over the leaders meeting (of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, at Akweteman) and knowing very well the importance of evangelism, decided to plant a Methodist church at Nii Boi Town, Accra. This great vision was welcomed by the Evangelism Committee of the church at Akweteman; and with the able leadership of Evan. Kwasi Agyei, (founder of Appiah Adu Prayer Camp) a 3 day Crusade to win more souls was organized at Nii Boi Town. This mega crusade was hosted by the Supt. Minister then in charge of Kpehe Circuit, The Very Rev. (Lt. Col. Rtd.) Alphonse Etsibah. God's miraculous hand touched the heart of our dear Sister Lovia Lamptey, (now a Rev. Minister of the Methodist Church) who at the end of the crusade willingly gave out her Day Care Centre (Pentecostal Basic School) at Nii Boi Town to be used for our Sunday worship. May God richly bless her. Bro. J.K. Addo and Sister Violet Essel performed leadership roles in the society for the first 2 weeks after which the mantle was handed over to Bro. Augustus Bamfo Dickson and Sis. Gladys Addo to nurture the then Nii Boi town preaching post to a full society, a decision which was taken at a leaders meeting held on the 28th April 2002 at the Ebenezer Methodist Society Akweteman. The change was necessary because Bro. J. K. Addo was then the Society Steward of Ebenezer Society and Sis. Violet Essel was also the Women's Fellowship President at Ebenezer Society. Under the leadership of Bro. A. B. Dickson and Sister Gladys Addo, the society grew in membership from a mere 7 to a sizeable number worthy of commendation. The rapid growth of the church forced leaders to put structures in place with the acquisition of a land for a church building as their priority, however lack of funds was a hindrance to the purchase of the first piece of land which was on sale at the Nii Boi Town Fish Pond. Later a member of the church late Mr. Akyereko in 2004, hinted Leaders at their meeting that he had seen our present piece of land on sale at Nii Boi town transformer. Leaders meeting quickly sent a delegation to see Nana Ayisi, a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church Akweteman, and at the same time a good friend of Mr. Kwasi Asante whose wife was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church Akweteman and the owner of our land which was on sale at Nii Boi town transformer to arrange for purchase. Mr. Asante was happy and agreed to sell the land to the church at a cost of old 60,000.00 million, now [GHC 6,000.00]. The zeal and enthusiasm with which members tackled the problem was very commendable. Contribution from all corners started pouring in and the once uninhabited land was filled and raised to the surprise of all. An open-air annual harvest was organized on the barren land on 4th November 2000 and out of the harvest proceed, a temporal structure was started in January 2006 and completed in March 2006. Once again the Society's initiative to organize a three day circuit Revival from 26th to 28th March 2006 under the leadership of the Very Rev. S. K. Kankam gave members the passage to enter the "Promise" land with confidence. Growth and God's bountiful provision soon dictated the time and on the 30th of March In 2006, another journey was made from the Pentecostal Day Care Center Lapaz, where we used to worship to the temporary structure we built with our harvest proceeds. A year later in 2007, the proposed name for the Church Mizpah Society was approved by Synod. Thanks to Very Rev. Cudjoe Mensah (of blessed memory) for our slogan "Mizpah - May the Lord watch over us." Mizpah School As part of our social responsibility, Mizpah Society was able to put up a school from Cre'che to primary five in 2011. The school operated for 8years from 2011 to 2019, however it was closed down due to space challenge we faced on our land. The ground floor of the school building was then converted to children service. Candidature The church has also play a very significant role in the candidature of The Rev. Gladys Aboagyewaa and Rev. David Fianko Sakyi to become a full ministers of the Methodist Church Ghana. By the grace of God, Mizpah society supported Rev. Gladys Aboagyewaa financially throughout her three-year studies at Trinity Theological Seminary. Indeed, we have lived to see the realization of a dream which started some twenty (20) years ago. We planted the mustard seed which fell on good grounds. We have seen growth blessed by the Holy Spirit and today we have reached another significant milestone. Members have worked without counting the cost knowing that is our Lord Jesus who gives us the talent and energy to do what we do. We are mere workers in His vineyard. Some members have been called to glory. Others have left for various reasons, many have remained resolute whiles others have joined from elsewhere. Mizpah Society worshiped in a temporal structure for the past 17 years. The nature of the structure and the entire environment were having a negative impact on the growth of the Church. At one of our leaders meeting in the year 2018, Rev. Enoch Antwi-Boasiako mooted the idea to pull down the old structure and build a more modernized chapel to the glory of God. This was welcomed and wholly supported by the entire leaders and pledged their full support to it. On 14th April, 2019, a sod cutting ceremony was held at Mizpah to pave way for the construction of the new church building for the society. The sod cutting was led by the then Superintendent Minister, The Very Rev. Dr. Asford N.Y. Quarcoo (of blessed memory), together with the minister in charge, Rev. Enoch Antwi-Boasiako. By the grace of God, on 8th August 2019, the foundation of the new chapel complex with a seating capacity of more than 450 worshipers was started on the same piece of land where the temporal structure was situated. This project was led by Bro. Charles Botchwey, the Project Committee Chairman, Bro. Bismark Sasu, Bro. A.B. Dickson Bro. Adolf Hanson and Sis. Joyce Ekuban. Indeed, the financial support from Hon. and Mrs Asiamah in raising the church to where it is today cannot be underestimated. Their financial contributions has been enormous and cannot be measured, hence deserve to be commended. In fact, one person who has been very instrumental in making sure this project come to fruition is Mrs. Wilhelmina Asiamah; the Steward of Mizpah.By the grace of God the new chapel building was roofed in March 2022. Though the church project is progressing steadily, church services are held each Sunday in the uncompleted church building. Church Manse The idea to build a manse started in September 2019 when Rev. Enoch Antwi-Boasiako after his completion of school was asked by the church through the Bishop to stay and serve Mizpah society as a full time minister. Initially leaders meeting agreed to rent 3-bedroom apartment just to make the minister and his family comfortable. The minister later realized this renting issue will rather weaken the financial position of the church in the forceable future. However, he suggested to leaders to start the manse with that little capital the church has, with the hope that God will raise helpers to continue. In fact, this call was later agreed by leaders and work started in December 2019. It was a hard decision though because work had already begun on the chapel somewhere in August, in that same year. However, upon the arrival of Mr. Adolf Hanson from France, Rev. Enoch Antwi-Boasiako saw the need to contact him for help. In fact, he accepted the call with glad and donated {Ghc 10,000} to start the project. Mr. Hanson brought his own masons and labourers to begin with the foundation to the window level before the church took over to continue. Indeed, he deserve to be commended for that act of giving. At this time, the two projects were going on concurrently and it became a financial threat to members. In view of the above challenges, leadership halted the church building project for a while and focused on the completion of the manse to take care of the Minister and the subsequent ones to come to avoid high cost of renting accommodation for same. By hard work and dedication from Rev. Enoch Antwi-Boasiako, leaders and the entire Membership of the Society, the manse was completed to the glory of God in December 2020. He was very instrumental in the nurturing of the church at the "nursery" stage with the help of Sis. Gladys Addo. Bro. A. B. Dickson played a pivotal role in the acquisition of the church land which we are occupying now with the help of Bro. Charles Botchwey and Bro. Winfred Adu-Darko of blessed memory. He held this position from 2002 to 2012 when the society had its first Minister in the person of Very Rev. Lewis Smart. The Church also appointed Bro.
